WILLIAM HILL MANIKATO STAKES NIGHT
The 2015 Manikato Stakes is a Group I weight-for-age for all horses held over a distance of 1200 metres at Moonee Valley Racecourse with total prizemoney of $1,000,000.
The Manikato Stakes was last run on Friday, October 24, 2014 and won by Lankan Rupee.
The honour roll of The Manikato Stakes surprisingly includes three Cox Plate winners despite being run over 1200 metres – Strawberry Road (1983), Rubiton (1987), and Sunline (2000).
Many great sprinters have contested the Manikato Stakes as it is recognised as one of the premier sprint races over the spring carnival.
Run at the tight-turning Moonee Valley track, barriers are always of high significance in the Manikato Stakes.
Since 2000, the Manikato Stakes has proven to be a haven for mares – Sea Siren (2012), Gold Edition (2007), Miss Andretti (2006), Spinning Hill (2003-2002), Piavonic (2001), and Sunline (2000).
MOONEE VALLEY – Friday 23rd October
Weather: Partly Cloudy, Track: GOOD 4, Pen: 4.65, Rail: True Entire Circuit.
Raceday Forecast: Cloudy
Race 1 No: 2 VICEROY
Comes off a dominant win when back to this trip last start. Ridden quiet with a perfect trail here from the perfect gate, he’ll be charging at them late. Go Close.
Race 3 No: 8 KILLARNEY KID
Both run this preparation have been good without winning. Fitter after recent racing and is proven in this distance range. Suited up to this trip now, third run into this present campaign, nice weight drop from his last run (3rd) in the Bairnsdale cup. Ready to win.
Race 7 No: 3 TERRAVISTA
Was unlucky in this race last year and looks to be right back to his best with strong first up win. Inside draw is a slight concern as he may be the one with the hard luck story after the race. Only just needs a touch of luck to be a serious threat at the business end of the race. Big chance.
Race 8 No: 6 IMPERIAL LASS
Promising staying mare that powered through the line when resuming. Suited up in trip and a get’s a perfect run in transit with the gate. Can win again. (WINNER – $6.00)
GOOD LUCK & GOOD PUNTING
Race 4 No: 6 SANYA
Led and fought on strongly when runner-up this track and distance on debut. All the better for the experience and gets the chance to go one better here.
Race 6 No: 4 FESTIVITY
Resumes from a 513-day break between races but should be fit enough winning three trials leading into this. Unbeaten in two Canterbury runs last preparation. Looks ready to go first-up.
GOOD LUCK & GOOD PUNTING
