FLEMINGTON – EMIRATES MELBOURNE CUP DAY MAIL – TUESDAY 1ST NOVEMBER

The Emirates Melbourne Cup is a truly spectacular event: each year on the first Tuesday of November at 3pm, the greatest thoroughbreds from around the world gather at Flemington and battle it out for a stake of the $6.2-million prize money and to cement their names in history.

Emirates Melbourne Cup Day sits at the pinnacle of the Australian racing calendar and is the focal point of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. There’s nothing like being there amongst the 100,000 plus crowd to experience the day that puts Australia firmly in the international sporting spotlight.

Trainers from around the world set their sights on the Emirates Melbourne Cup, a race widely considered to be the best staying handicap in the world. Over 3200 metres, the Emirates Melbourne Cup offers the richest prize in Australian sport and a 18ct solid gold trophy valued at $175,000. With such significant international standing, the anticipation of history in the making creates the electric atmosphere that is ‘the race that stops a nation’.

As the jewel in the Melbourne Cup Carnival crown, this iconic day is a heady mix of revelry, spectacular racing and fashion, and exquisite hospitality and entertainment, making it an unmissable sporting and cultural event.

The Derby Day Mail resulted in 2 winners on a tough day with (COMIN’ THROUGH $7.00 / OCEANOGRAPHER $2.90) getting the cash and at day’s end showing a small profit. Good luck with today’s Melbourne Cup Mail.

MELBOURNE CUP DAY MAIL
Weather: Overcast, Track: Good 3, Pen: TBA, Rail: True Entire Circuit

Race 1 – 10:40am Ottawa Stakes (1000m)
No: 1 MADEENATY – Looked a real star sprinting away from them on debut here in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes. Will start short but it will take a very good 2yo to beat her here. Start short, will be winning. Hard to beat.
(PLACED – 3RD)

Race 2 – 11:20am TAB.com.au Trophy (1700m)
No: 11 MODEL DRAGON – Highly promising mare off a big fresh win at Cranbourne. Hasn’t tasted defeat in her three career starts. She’ll love getting onto this bigger track and looks well up to the rise in grade. Winning chance.
(UNPLACED)

Race 3 – 12:00pm Prince of Penzance Plate (2800m)
No: 18 SUPER HAZE – Promising stayer going through the grades winning his last 2 starts in good fashion. Only just reaching peak fitness and drawn for a softer run this time round, he’ll be tough to beat if he can handle the class rise.
(UNPLACED)

Race 4 – 12:40pm Lavazza Prontissimo (1400m)
No: 3 DEMONSTRATE – He’s flying at present and this extra distance shouldn’t pose no problem going out to this trip. Straight into the box seat, he’ll fight out the finish. Hard to beat.
(WINNER – $1.90)

Race 5 – 1:20pm Schweppes #FlemingtonFling (1000m)
No: 12 AMANAAT – Soft win on debut winning by a nice margin, trialled brilliantly to have the colt ready for this first up assignment. Open to so much improvement, he has to be included in everything. Both Totes.
(UNPLACED)

Race 6 – 2:00pm Lexus Hybrid Plate (1400m)
No: 17 SYLPHEED – – Huge run at Caulfield doing all the work out in front with the strong breeze in the face. Straight into a perfect run just off the pace she gets another chance to atone. Go close.
(UNPLACED)

Race 7 – 3.00pm Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m)

TOP SELECTION
17 ALMANDIN – The stable certainly know how to peak one for the Cup, he has won his past two eased down, only carries 52kg and has the white hot Kerrin McEvoy on. A real sense of timing about him for this year’s cup.
(WINNER – $12.30)

DANGER
20 OCEANOGRAPHER – Ran good time on Saturday and he’ll have no trouble with this distance the way he attacked the line with plenty of gusto. Slight query is the quick back up from Saturday’s Lexus win. If he handles the back up he will be very competitive in an open race.
(UNPLACED)

BEST ROUGHIE
13 HEARTBREAK CITY – Strong stayer that’s found his best form since mixing flat racing with hurdles. He’ll stay all day and he does handle all track conditions, has a turn of foot so if he’s closer enough in the straight he will be charging at them late. Top jockey rides is another plus. Great eachway chance.
(PLACED 3RD – PAID $6.30)

Race 8 – 3:55pm James Boag’s Premium Stakes (1800m)
No: 11 TUCANCHOO – Fitter and suited out to this trip now. Does appear he’ll receive the perfect run settling a few pairs back and hit the line late. Great eachway chance with the odds on offer.
(PLACED 2ND – $4.80)

Race 9 – 4:35pm MSS Security Sprint (1200m)
No: 11 SIR BACCHUS Comes off a big win at Moonee Valley and he looks suited up the straight where he can be saved for the last run. Winning chance in an open field.

Race 10 – 5:15pm The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m)
No: 3 SILENT SEDITION – Big run fresh and this trip is ideal. Straight into the box seat on jumping, she’ll take some beating if she gets the luck in the straight.

Race 4 – 12:40pm Lavazza Prontissimo (1400m)
No: 3 DEMONSTRATE – He’s flying at present and this extra distance shouldn’t pose no problem going out to this trip. Straight into the box seat, he’ll fight out the finish. Hard to beat.
(WINNER – $1.90)
