FLEMINGTON – EMIRATES STAKES DAY MAIL – SATURDAY 5TH NOVEMBER

The Melbourne Cup Carnival concludes its festivities with this great day of racing. The ‘family day’ of the Carnival is packed with fast action and excitement, featuring the new highlight to conclude the Carnival, the $2 million Group 1 Emirates Stakes (formerly Mackinnon), 2000m of pure excitement at weight-for-age which is sure to attract the stars of our sport.

Emirates Stakes Day is packed with fast action and excitement. Starting with the 1000m dash for two-year-olds at Group 3 level, the racing highlights include the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2600m as the final staying test of the Carnival, followed by the weight-for-age Group 1 Darley Classic which will see the star sprinters tackle the famed Flemington straight in this leg of the Global Sprint Challenge that has been previously won twice by the unbeatable Black Caviar. Quickly following on is the new highlight of the final day, the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (formerly Mackinnon) which will see the true champion middle-distance horses from Australia and abroad tackle the 2000m at weight-for-age conditions that will ensure the Carnival concludes with a dramatic finale.

FLEMINGTON – EMIRATES STAKES DAY MAIL
Weather: OVERCAST, Track: GOOD 4, Peno: 4.86, Rail: Out 6m Entire Circuit

Race 1 – 12:15pm Maribyrnong Plate (1000m)
No: 15 RESIN – Showed good race sense at Wyong where she relaxed beautifully in the run to win her first trial. Will derive plenty form the rial and she must be showing something at home to travel her to Melbourne for her debut. Drawn the outside gate where it is the best to be on the last day of the carnival. Chance in an open 2yo event.

Race 2 – 12.50pm Starlight Children’s Foundation Plate (2000m)
No: 13 CURRAGH – Improving former kiwi galloper that will love getting out to this trip on a bigger track. Two starts back he beat (The Chairman) who won on Oaks Day so form as been franked. Well in on the limit, Melbourne’s leading jockey D.Oliver looking to get into the winners circle at this carnival. Watch for him charging late. Both Totes.
(UNPLACED)

*

Race 3 – 1:30pm Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m)
No: 1 FRANCIS OF ASSISI (5) – Looks the class runner in the race. Won the Bendigo Cup with ease at his Australian debut last start when sprinted clear in the straight to win comfortably. Can only improve now that he has had run (Win) on Australian soil, extra distance suits and will be hard to hold out. Hard to beat.
(WINNER – $5.50)

*

Race 4 – 2:10pm Hilton Stakes (1400m)
No: 6 INSIDE AGENT – Promising colt that’s going to love getting onto this bigger track at Flemington. Looked to be a touch unlucky when we saw him last at the races where he just could get a clear run in the straight to finish under 2 lengths from the winner to run 6th. Love to see him race a touch closer as he is drawn to receive the run of the race, only needs to get off the fence in the straight to be flying home late. Eachway chance.

*

Race 5 – 2.50pm Antler Luggage Handicap (1600m)
No: 8 LUCKY PADDY (10) – Fitter now for two runs back from a very long spell. Run at The Valley was okay as he had to make ground when he was specked in the betting to run third. Form has been franked with the winner of that race has won again. Will appreciate the bigger track at Flemington. He will be charging home late.
(UNPLACED)

*

Race 6 – 3:50pm 7News Matriarch Stakes (2000m)
No: 10 LADY LE FAY (3) – She’s looking for this trip now as she was given no chance last start staying along the rails by the senior rider on Cox Plate Day. Straight into a box seat from the gate and she does gets her chance to bounce back. Ready to win.
(UNPLACED)

Race 7 – 4:15pm Emirates Stakes (2000m)
No: 3 THE UNITED STATES (6) – Backing up for a third run in as many weeks and he is thriving on the racing. Loved the way he hit the line last week off an unsuitable tempo to run fourth beaten just over a length. Getting to his favourite trip. Should prove very hard to beat.
(UNPLACED)

*

Race 8 – 5pm Darley Classic(1200m)
No: 3 THE QUARTERBACK (4) – Flying and he’s much better suited back on his favourite track where he has won 5 times and been placed on several occasions here. He’ll race much closer as he can reel of a quick final sectional. Go close.
(UNPLACED)

*

Race 9 – 5:45pm Emirates Airline Handicap (1400m)
No: 6 LORD ASPEN (4) Backing up from Adelaide his win in good fashion. Has won and placed at his two previous attempts at this track. Drawn to be on or need the speed and should get the run of the race. Definite winning chance. Both Totes that are on offer.
(WINNER – $7.50)

Race 3 – 1:30pm Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m)
